Parlor Chat: Our Lady of Guadalupe Special Exhibit
President of the Museum of Hispanic and Latino Cultures Guillermo Arriaga will give a free 45-60 minute parlor talk in the Monroe House about the “Our Lady of Guadalupe” special exhibit. The Oberlin Heritage Center is excited to have The Museum of Hispanic and Latino Cultures return and install a special exhibit September 5 - 21 in OHC's Monroe House. This exhibit, which will overlap with National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15–October 15), highlights imagery of Our Lady of Guadalupe, one of the most significant figures of Catholicism and also known as patroness of the Americas. It includes a mini selection of statues, portraits, and other items featuring Our Lady of Guadalupe and addresses the symbolism in her portrayal, how she is tied to Mexico's religious and social history, and how she is celebrated today. View the exhibit as part of the Heritage Center’s Upstairs/Downstairs tours every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., or during 30 minute drop-in Sneak Peek tours. (Normal tour fees apply; visit www.oberlinheritagecenter for details.)
