Spring Break Camp: Ancient Egypt
March 26 & 27 – Ancient Egypt

Learn about the people, gods, and land of the pharaohs. How did they build their mighty monuments? What wonders did they want with them in their tombs? Together we will gaze upon treasures from Egypt, craft an object for the afterlife, write a message in hieroglyphics, and sample Egyptian cuisine.

Oberlin Heritage Center camps are open to boys and girls ages 8 to 13. Each two-day camp runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Camps are designed to stimulate children’s creativity and whet their appetites for history, architecture, art, and the tastes and sounds of other cultures and other times. Camp will be held at the Oberlin Depot at 240 South Main Street, sometimes with walking field trips to interesting places nearby, weather permitting. For all days children should bring a bag lunch and dress for being outside for certain activities. Simple snacks are provided.

Meet our teachers! Liz Schultz is the Museum Education and Tour Coordinator for the Oberlin Heritage Center. She graduated with degrees in archaeology and anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Binghamton University (NY). Liz then earned a M.A. in museum studies with a focus in museum education from the Cooperstown Graduate Program (New York). Liz enjoys inspiring curiosity, creativity, and an appreciation for diverse cultures, past and present. Jen Graham is an AmeriCorps member working in Northeast Ohio to support local history organizations. Camps are assisted by an adult intern or volunteer, and young volunteers from the community.

Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. No refunds will be made within one week prior to the session the registrant is scheduled to attend. Maximum enrollment is 17 children per camp. Camps may be cancelled if a minimum enrollment (8) is not met by one week prior to the start date.
